Resources & Tools

Far too many Catholics are not familiar with the basic content of Catholic social teaching. More fundamentally, many Catholics do not adequately understand that the social teaching of the Church is an essential part of Catholic faith. This poses a serious challenge for all Catholics, since it weakens our capacity to be a Church that is true to the demands of the Gospel. We need to do more to share the social mission and message of our Church. (Sharing Catholic Social Teaching: Challenges and Directions, U.S. Catholic Bishops, 1998)

On this page you will find a variety of resources to help parishioners, parish communities, and parish leaders become more familiar with the Church’s rich heritage of Catholic social teaching. Additional resources are also provided to help Catholics respond to Catholic social teaching through works of service justice.

      Major Documents

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB): (http://www.usccb.org) The USCCB is an assembly of the Catholic Church hierarchy who work together to unify, coordinate, promote, and carry on Catholic activities in the United States.

USCCB Justice for Immigrants Campaign (http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org) Provides excellent resources (English and Spanish) for the Catholic Campaign for immigration reform.

Social Development and World Peace (http://www.usccb.org/sdwp) Coordinates public education and advocacy on both domestic and international issues of social justice and produces resources, manuals, and other materials to accompany bishops' statements on Catholic social teaching and issues of justice and peace.

Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA): (http://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org) Catholic Charities is a national organization with more than 1,500 local agencies and institutions which provides help and creates hope for millions of low-income families who do not have the necessary resources to fully provide for their most basic needs.
