10.10.06: Job Opportunities! The federal Administration for Children and Families has just announced that CCI will receive $449,000 to promote a fatherhood initiative statewide. Idaho Dads Matter! is a collaborative project of CCI, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, and Down to Earth Dad, LLC. The overall goal of Idaho Dads Matter! is to encourage responsible fatherhood in non-custodial dads throughout Idaho by providing activities that promote responsible parenting and economic stability.

CCI will be hiring seven Counselor/Family Educator part-time positions corresponding to the seven regions of the state with office space in CCI’s Family Strengthening Centers in Nampa (still open!), Boise (position filled), Jerome (still open!), Coeur d’Alene (position filled), Lewiston (position filled), Blackfoot (still open!) and Idaho Falls (still open!). These are a grant funded positions through the Federal Administration for Children and Families’ Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Initiative. These positions are funded through September 30, 2007, with up to four years continuation subject to availability of funds. It is possible to combine Nampa/Boise and Blackfoot/Idaho Falls for full time positions. Positions are open until filled.

Becoming a Love and Logic Parent - (view flyer) - a six consecutive week course designed to teach parents how to raise healthy and responsible children. Classes start on Wednesday, October 11th from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. and will be held at CCI, 4202 Emerald, in Boise. Cost is $10 per person per class ($60 total for six classes) and the parent handbook is an additional $8. Sliding fee scale rates are available. Register with our secure form.

Marriage Enrichment Workshop(view flyer) - a four consecutive week workshop for couples interested in cultivating and strengthening their marriage. The first session is on Thursday October 12th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and will be held at CCI, 4202 Emerald. Cost is $60 per couple. Scholarships are available.

Dangers of Pornography Panel Presentation(view flyer) - Tuesday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 7960 Northview in Boise. This will be an informative evening for parents and concerned individuals regarding the escalation of pornography addiction and on-line sexual predators. Presenters include Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, Deacon Michael Eisenbeiss, and marriage therapist Kevin Rhinehart, LCSW. This event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the Idaho Conference of Catholic Women.

8.7.06: Vicky Jekich, Manager of Diversity for Albertsons Incorporated presented CCI with a check for $20,000. This gift, part of Albertsons Project Restore, was in recognition of the various services CCI provided for Hurricane Katrina/Rita evacuees who relocated to Idaho. Albertsons was a major partner in our hurricane relief efforts and helped provide food, housing, transportation, and other services for our families. This gift will assist in our continuing work with hurricane evacuees and others in need in the community. Rosio Gonzalez, Executive Director, and Marcie Wilske, Parish Social Ministry Coordinator, accepted this gift on behalf of Catholic Charities of Idaho.

Most recently Rosio held the position of Executive Director of the CASI Foundation for Children, Inc., which handles domestic and international adoptions. Rosio will officially start July 1. 3.31.06: Sanctuary closes its doors. Over 70 volunteers provided shelter and food to over 250 different individuals. Sanctuary was created as an Emergency Winter Shelter only. Its closing doesn't mean the problem of homelessness in Boise has disappeared.
An Emergency Gathering on Homelessness will be held on THURSDAY, APRIL 6TH at the Ahavath Beth Israel Synagogue (11 N. Latah St., Boise) from 6:00-9:00 p.m. All are invited.
