Press Release June 1, 2007
Congressman Simpson to be “Roasted” at Catholic Charities Event

Loaves & Fishes Dinner is Saturday, September 8, 2007 in Boise

(Boise, Idaho) Congressman Mike Simpson will be the guest of honor, and the subject of a friendly “roast,” at the upcoming Loaves & Fishes – An Idaho Political Roast event. The annual dinner, hosted by the Most Rev. Michael Driscoll, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Boise, will be held Saturday evening, September 8, at The Grove Hotel in Boise. Proceeds benefit Catholic Charities of Idaho, a non-profit agency providing social services throughout the state of Idaho.

“To have someone as highly regarded as Congressman Simpson donate his time and effort for this event is truly exciting,” said Bishop Driscoll. “I understand he has a wonderful sense of humor, and that’s an important part of the fun at the Loaves and Fishes banquet.”

Rep. Simpson, who is serving his fifth term in the House of Representatives for Idaho’s Second Congressional District, agreed to participate in the event without hesitation.

“Idaho’s second district has benefited from the hard work of this organization, and I am willing to do whatever I can to help the people I represent,” said Simpson. “If that means I am the ‘roastee,’ then so be it. I am looking forward to seeing friends and associates and having a good time for a great cause.”

Although the panel of official roasters is not yet finalized, a number of officials have indicated their intention to attend the event, including Idaho Governor Butch Otter, Secretary of State Ben Ysursa, Boise Mayor David Bieter, and former state senator Bruce Newcomb. Last year’s initial event attracted nearly 300 people and featured candidates for governor and lieutenant governor races.

The event is open to the public. Tickets are $100.00 per person, with tables of ten priced at $1,000.00. Underwriting opportunities are available as well. For tickets and information contact Catholic Charities of Idaho at 345-6031.
