Nearly 80 people braved the snowy weather on December 2nd to join us at the informational meeting and gathering for Hurricane Katrina and Rita Evacuees, volunteers, and community members.

It was a wonderful way to mark 100 days of relocation efforts, update people regarding available services, connect families that found their way to Idaho with other former Gulf Coast residents and to share the warmth and spirit of our Idaho communities.

Catholic Charities of Idaho was pleased to be able to provide an opportunity for families to socialize and help build a sense of community as people move forward in their lives and begin to see themselves as Idahoans.

BSU Social Work intern Adriane Wright took charge of organizing a volunteer effort for decorating, cleaning up, and childcare. With the help of many volunteers, the activities for children including a holiday art project and cookie decorating were popular.

Many volunteers and community representatives were also in attendance, and we were pleased to be able to celebrate with them and thank them for their efforts on behalf of all those affected by the hurricanes.

The outpouring of support that CCI has witnessed throughout this disaster, and the ongoing response, was and continues to be overwelming. Through the many generous donations of money, time, goods, and services, we have been able to make a difference in so many lives. We are truly grateful.

A special thanks to the representatives from Idaho Homeland Security, IRS, and 211 Idaho Careline who attended the event and fielded questions for over an hour. Also, thanks to St. Vincent de Paul, Wells Fargo and Holy Apostles Catholic Community for their generosity in helping to make the evening a success. Catering was provided by Life's Kitchen and Aaron Miller and members of his band provided musical entertainment.
